24 May 2008  -  BON ACCORD BA  132  v  97  CITY OF DUNDEE BA  -  RESULT

Following last weeks first class performance, this result was a major disappointment for the 'City' team.  The game was played in bright sunshine, although there was a very stiff breeze to contend with,  The green was much slower than the previous week at Craigie BC and some players found it difficult to find the level of consistency required at this level of play.  Bon Accord were quickly into their stride however & soon led by around 15 shots.  They were able to steadily build on that lead and were at no time troubled by the over-all score.  There were though, one or two positives to take from this game.  Harry Grieve & his rink of Mark Biondi, Alex Nairn & John Strachan were winners for the third successive week and Ricky Barlow's rink also had a very creditable win against the rink of Kevin Harper.

Rink Scores:  (Bon Accord skips first)

A. Rough  beat  C. Brunton  20-14,  D. McNicol  beat  R. Smith  19-15,  B. Ledingham  beat  K. Brunton  30-7,  D. Farquharson  beat  V. Stewart  32-17,  I. Donald  lost to  H. Grieve  14-18,  K. Harper  Lost to  R. Barlow  17-26

31 May 2008  -  CITY OF DUNDEE BA  119  v  129  ABERDEEN & KINCARDINE BA  -  RESULT

There were high expectations before this game that 'The City' team would be able to halt A&K's 100% record in the 2008 Andrew HamiltonTrophy, at Fairfield BC.  The outcome, however was to be most disappointing.  The 10 shot defeat consisted of only 2 winning rinks. Brothers Callum & Kevin Brunton both scored wins of 3 shots & 11 shots respectively.  Of the four rinks that lost, three were beaten by a single shot but Vince Stewarts' rink lost heavily (12-33) to an inspired performance by Jim Roddie & his outstanding rink.  Both sides had rinks that began the game well, whilst others started more slowly.  This kept the overall score very close until A&K gradually built a lead of 20 shots at around the 12th end.  Dundee though came storming back to level the game with around 27 ends to play, but A&K were not to be outdone - they fought back again to regain the lead & held it to the end.

Rink Scores:  (City of Dundee skips first)

C. Brunton  beat  R. Bruce  22-19,  H. Grieve  lost to  D. Keith  19-20,  R. Barlow  lost to  N. Burnett  22-23,  R. Smith  lost to  A. Noble  21-22,  K. Brunton  beat  M. Campbell  23-12,  V. Stewart  lost to  J. Roddie 12-33

7 June 2008  -  CITY of DUNDEE BA TEAM CHANGES

Following one withdrawal, there were a couple changes to the team announced on Monday.

Dudhope's Calvin Mulholland was unavailable & his position as third to Ricky Barlow was taken by George Beat, who had initially, been placed at third to Roger Smith.  Fairfield's Stuart Philip was the player given the task of filling the vacant position.

7 June 2008  -  HIGHLAND BA  106  v  108  CITY OF DUNDEE BA  -  RESULT

An excellent result for the 'City' team!  The game had a very exciting finish going to the last two rinks left on the green.  With two ends to play the score was tied at 106-106. Ricky Barlow's rink then scored a single shot on their last end to put the 'City' in front.  In the last match to finish, Roger Smith's rink lay shot with both skips to play.  Highland skip Mark Thurston edged out the lying bowl to hold shot for Highland.  Although Roger could not better that bowl, Mark, in an attempt to draw a second shot and win the game, knocked a 'City' bowl in for the shot allowing Roger the luxury of not having to play his final bowl.  Earlier in the game, Highland managed to edge ahead of their 'City' opponents, but a super fightback from the 'City' lads set up the very exciting finish to the game.

Rink Scores:  (Highland skips first)

K. Beaton  beat  K. Brunton  22-10,  J. Thain  beat  H. Grieve  21-17,  S. Cruickshank  lost to  C. Brunton  12-22,  G. Donaldson  lost to  R. Carlin  18-22,  M. Thurston  lost to  R. Smith  17-22,  M. Stepney beat  R. Barlow  16-15

25 August 2008  -  CITY of DUNDEE BA - U35 SINGLES

Congratulations to Paul Lyndsay of Baxter Park BC who this evening won the 2008 final of the J. Wilkie Trophy defeating Mykie Spalding of Fairfield BC by 21 shots to 9. Both players had good spells in the game but Paul had both the consistency and variety of shots to enable him to control most of the game. Although both players made solid a solid start to the game, Paul just edged slightly ahead by 7-4 after the early ends. Then Paul scored a 4 followed by two singles to put himself in the driving seat. Mykie to his credit however, kept the pressure on & refused to buckle, ensuring that Paul had to work hard to see out the match. Once again, congratulations to Paul who now takes to the green tomorrow evening attempting to win the double! Commiserations to Mykie, who i'm sure, will be back in the final once again before too long.

27 August 2008  -  CITY of DUNDEE BA - CHAMPIONSHIPS

After a couple of days delay due to the recent severe heavy rainfall in the local area, the City of Dundee BA Championships 2008 were completed last night at Craigie BC.

A healthy crowd of spectators on an evening of light rain & sunshine, witnessed some splendid play on a surface that looked a delight to play on. There was plenty of good play to be seen & although the competitors were giving their all in their determination to succeed, some excellent displays of sportsmanship were also on display.

Although congratulations are in order for all the winners, special mention should be made of Paul Lindsay of Baxter Park BC, who added the Champ of Champs title to the U-35 title he won the previous evening! Commiserations, as always, go to the Runners-up.
